Did you read the following stories… the first one is on the local level and the second one happened in Georgia.  They both give the reader a sense of what is going on in this country, when it comes to gun violence, and what is not being addressed.

“A Bismarck woman who lives in the mobile home court at 2500 Centennial Road called 911 at 1 p.m. Saturday to report a burglary in progress. She was in her car and saw a man prying her front door open and entering her home. Officers arrived and a man, identified as David Doda, age 44, came out of the home. He followed commands and was taken into custody.  Officers interviewed Doda at the police department, and he agreed to show them items in his home he had stolen. A detective and two patrol officers accompanied Doda to his home,  which was another mobile home, located in the same trailer court, as the victim.  The officers searched the recliner Doda sat in and the area surrounding it, however, Doda pulled a firearm out of an unknown place and shot himself in the head at 5:29 p.m.  He was pronounced DOA at a local hospital.”

Now that is what I call “good” gun control and a winning situation all the way around.   A gun owned by a criminal has been seized by the police and should remain out of circulation,  a “bad” guy has also taken himself out of circulation permanently, this individual will not be committing any more felonies on innocent neighbors, no police officers were shot or injured, and the perp saved the community the expense of housing him in jail, the expense of a trial, and the expense of incarcerating him at the State Penitentiary.  We need more criminals like this.

“Police arrested two teenagers Friday who are suspected in the shooting death of a 13-month-old baby in a stroller and wounding the baby’s mother during an attempted robbery.  Seventeen-year-old De’Marquis Elkins is charged as an adult with first-degree murder, along with a 14-year-old who was not identified because he is a juvenile.  The mother pleaded with the gunman and a younger accomplice who approached her Thursday morning, while she walked near their home in coastal Brunswick.  Elkins repeatedly asked for money, which the mother stated that she did not have.  He than threatened to kill her baby.  Elkins then fired 4 shots, the first into the ground, then he fired at her head …grazing her left ear, shot her in the leg with the third shot, and then he proceeded to go around the stroller and shot the baby in the face.”

When is it enough?  When are we as a society going to do something to address gang violence and stop this worthless “War on Drugs.”  It is not working folks and more drastic measures need to be put in place.  I am also shocked at the lack of outrage over this senseless murder of a baby, by members of the “black” community.  You were up in arms over the supposed murder of Trayvon Martin in Florida, but not a peep over a baby’s murder in Georgia.  This double standard is what keeps racism alive in this country.
